Healthy Pregnancy And Miscarriage

One in five pregnancies in the United States ends in a miscarriage. That is why when a woman gets pregnant after a miscarriage, she is filled with excitement as well as fear wondering whether she would be given a new chance she had hoped for after losing the earlier baby. Usually, if you are going through the same feeling of fear and guilt, there is nothing much that can be done to allay your fears but you can do a few things yourself to feel better in the days to come.

Abnormal Vaginal Bleeding

Abnormal vaginal bleeding can be described as any bleeding that is not normal menstrual bleeding or mid-cycle spotting. If you have any of these, you should go to a doctor immediately to get it investigated because it might be a signal that there is a problem in your vagina, uterus or ovaries.

What causes abnormal vaginal bleeding?

Abnormal vaginal bleeding can happen in between normal menstrual bleeding or it can be in the form of unusually heavy menstrual bleeding. Abnormal menstrual bleeding can also happen in postmenopausal women. Abnormal vaginal bleeding can be caused by number things such as hormonal imbalance, injury to the vagina, sexual abuse, infection in the uterus, polyps or fibroids in the uterus, cancer of the cervix, cancer of the ovaries, and complications in a pregnancy.

Abnormal vaginal bleeding can also occur during the first couple of weeks after giving birth to a baby. However, under those circumstances this bleeding will not be labeled as abnormal because the sloughed-off tissue from the uterus comes out. However, if the bleeding is so heavy or abnormal after delivery that a woman is soaking up a large maxi pad, she should immediately consult her doctor.

Some women also face abnormal bleeding after an abortion. This could be because some of the fetal tissue is still present in the uterus and the uterus is gradually getting rid of it.

It has been seen that hormonal imbalances is one of the primary reasons for abnormal vaginal bleeding and this problem usually occurs in women during their reproductive years. Women who have abnormal vaginal bleeding should consult their doctor who will do all the necessary tests and examination to find out the reason for the bleeding.
