Infertility And Ovulation Induction Treatments

Infertility in women is usually because the women fail to ovulate, do not ovulate regularly or if they do ovulate, the eggs are not healthy. This is why many women seek help of professionals who recommend infertility and ovulation induction treatments.

Ovulation induction treatments for infertility are basically used when a woman has constant miscarriages and the doctors are unable to identify the reason for the miscarriages.

In infertility and ovulation induction treatments, certain fertility drugs are given to the woman. These drugs work towards stimulating the follicles of the ovary so that more than one egg is produced. In addition, the time when the eggs are released from the ovary is also controlled, so artificial insemination, in vitro fertilization or sexual intercourse can be timed according to the release to achieve a greater chance of the woman getting pregnant.

The most common infertility and ovulation induction drugs that are used today are clomiphene citrate, gonadotropins, Metformin and Parlodel. Clomiphene citrate is a tablet prescribed to women who have irregular periods or long periods. Women taking these tablets can suffer from side effects that include headaches, hot flashes and blurred vision.

Gonadotropins are drugs that have to be injected and they work towards inducing release of eggs after they mature in the follicles of the ovary. Women can experience certain side effects including abdominal discomfort, mood swings or fatigue. Metformin is given to diabetic women who are on insulin. Metformin is very effective in decreasing hair loss, regularizing periods and making a woman fertile. Parlodel is an oral drug with very few side effects. It is known to decrease the levels of prolactin, which is a hormone.

There are many infertility and ovulation induction treatments available these days. It is best to consult your doctor who would be able to advice you as to which treatment is best suited for you.
