Dealing With IVF Failure

If you are going to undergo IVF treatment for infertility, it is quite possible that you will be highly optimistic about the results. However, you should be prepared to deal with IVF failure as many couples have to cope with this harsh reality. Dealing with IVF failure is a must as research has shown that failure is more likely than success when you opt for this infertility treatment.

In vitro fertilization, or IVF, is quite an expensive procedure. In addition, it is stressful as many women get their hopes high after they undergo the first cycle of treatment. Invariably women only find out later that the chances of success are much lower than what the doctor said in the initial consultation that led them to take the final step in their endeavor to become pregnant.

Dealing with IVF failure will prepare you as it has been seen that the failure rate is nearly 75 to 80 percent compared to the success rate, which is just 25 to 30 percent. You have to understand that the procedure involves transferring fertilized eggs into the uterus and this is completely different from a pregnancy. Then you have to wait for a period of two weeks to figure out whether the implantation took place and it is only then you will be termed as becoming pregnant.

When implantation does not take place, most women want to know the reason. Often a doctor will not be able to give you a reason even if the prospects of becoming pregnant were good. This can be very frustrating and disappointing for women who spent 3 to 4 weeks taking painful injections hoping to become pregnant thereafter.

Therefore, dealing with IVF failure requires you to review the treatment procedure so that the repeat treatment process can be adjusted. However, if your doctor does not suggest a change in the treatment process and you have doubts about the clinic, it is best to find another clinic.
