Adoption Agencies That Accept Gender Requests
| Gender preference or making requests for adopting child of a specific gender by adoptive parents is a tricky issue. Most domestic adoption agencies do not encourage such practice of sex preference except in particular cases. Sex preference is quite common while adopting children from other countries. |
Most of the countries have adoption policies that honor requests for gender preference. Adoption agencies supervising overseas adoption are quite aware of these policies. These agencies have now started to believe that honoring gender preference leads to a more successful adoption experience.
According to a report published on Foreign Adoption, U.S. residents seeking to adopt a child have an increased preference for adopting girls. Out of every 6 adoption application requests received by Adoption Agency of WACAP, one application has preference for boys while 5 applications had request for baby girls. The basic reason behind such preference is that parents feel it easier to raise a girl than a boy. While females are perceived as tender, submissive, and easier to mould, boys are considered as aggressive and rebellious. Moreover, girls have better protective instincts that are often liked by adoptive parents. However, there are parents who prefer adopting boys with the sole objective of carrying forward their family name and heritage.
Parents should have the choice of specifying the gender of the child while adopting. Gender cannot be controlled while giving birth to a child. However, gender preference is one of the several benefits of adoption. Apart from that, parents often feel confident about their parenting skills towards child of a particular gender.
