Teaching your child to behave is one of the most difficult jobs. Parents have to strike a balance between helping, advising and punishing their children. Sometimes, kids under the age of ten behave in an inappropriate manner or use offensive language. It is essential for parents to punish this kind of behavior. However, discipline should be enforced without yelling or nagging.

          Take notice of your child when he is behaving well. This will encourage him to be good at all times. When your child is 4 to 5 years old, you can set certain rules around the house. Give simple explanations as to why misbehavior is not acceptable. Point out the consequences of your child’s behavior to him. Give him minor punishments in response to unwanted behavior.

          Remember that children learn from watching people around them. You need to set a good example for your children. If you expect kids to be polite and not use offensive language, then you must do these things yourself. Good discipline teaches a child to be well behaved even when the parents are not around. Parents should act like teachers rather than be angry and yell at the child when he misbehaves. You need to be a partner to your child in this learning process.

          At times, it is important for parents to let their child make some choices. It helps your child in making decisions of their own. It also helps your child feel that he has a say in matters relating to his own life.
