How To Defend Against Bullies At School

The statistics show that approximately ten percent of children at school are the victims of a bully. What do you do when your children are bullied at school? Some parents tell their child to ignore the bullies, stand up for yourself, or deflect bullies with humor. Unfortunately, those actions will only provoke and encourage bullies.

Never ignore bullying, because your children will turn into easy target to pick on. Bullies will never stop, if you ignore them. It will only get worse. It is important to teach your children that they have the right not to be bullied, harassed, or abused at school.

Never tell your children to stand up for themselves against bullies. It is just not that plain and simple. Even adults find it hard to protect themselves against the onslaught of bullies. If your children start fighting back, they will be more likely to get hurt. Or they may get in trouble at school. Some parents think that they can help their children by taking their children to self defense classes. Although self defense is a good way to improve your children’s confidence, fighting back to the bullies is just not the answer.

Some parents tell their children to deflect bullies with humor. Although it may sound like a sensible solution, it is not very practical. Most victims of bullying become to frustrate to laugh with the bully. Laughing at the bullies is like laughing at rapist, mugger, or pedophile. It will only make your children suffer.

If your children are bullied at school, they need to tell the teacher. You should schedule a meeting with the other parents. Alert the school about the problem.
