Children before the age of two try to experience and communicate to get what they want. By the age of four, tantrums should start fading away. 1) Keep your calm. When your children start screaming at you, the worst thing that you can do is to scream back at them. Believe it or not, children will do as you do rather than do as you say. Your calm influence will be important example for them. If you feel like you are loosing control, take a deep breath before responding. Get other people to look after the child while you calm down.
2) Understanding children’s tantrum. When children have tantrums, they do not always try to get their way. Sometimes they might just try to communicate to you about other problems like lack of attention or sickness.
3) Never reward the tantrum. Never give in for misbehavior. If you give in, your children will continue to use tantrums as weapons against you. Children will keep using tantrums into their adulthood. If they have an outburst, do not panic. Let them be for a few minutes. Then calmly talk to them.
4) Reason with your children. Explaining is an important part of parenting. Your children need to understand why it is not good to have tantrums. Talk to your children after the tantrum has ended. Teach them that their behavior is unacceptable, and there are better ways to express their feeling.
