Parenting Advice On Drugs

Parents can prevent their children from using drugs. According to the statistics from U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, kids who are informed about the danger of drugs are less likely to do drugs: 36% less likely to smoke marijuana, 56% less likely to use cocaine, and 65% less likely to use LSD. Parents have powerful influence in children’s life against drug addiction. Here are tips on how you can do something to protect your children.

Get Involved: It is important to be close to your children. Children who are close to their parents are less likely to do drugs. The closer you are to them the more responsive they will be to your advice.  Even if you are a very busy person, it is important to spend time with your children regularly. For instance, have dinner together as much as possible. It will be great, if you can eat together everyday.

Communicate With Your Kids: Good communication is an important key to help you make a difference in your children’s life. It is important to learn how to be a good listener. Ask questions to learn about what is going on in your kids’ life. Always make them feel comfortable to talk to you. Finally, tell them that you want them to stay away from drugs often. Talking to your kids about drugs once or twice a year is just not enough.

Be A Role Model: Kids usually do what you do rather than do what you say. Therefore, if you are getting high everyday, they probably do the same.

Lay Down The Law: Teenagers between the age of eleven and thirteen years old are at risk of drug experimentation. Rules and guidance can help protecting from drugs. Create rules, and enforce it strictly. For instance, set a curfew. Have your children check in at regular times.
