Nutrition & Exercise

During pregnancy, your body gains a few pounds in weight. Your muscles have also been stretched out. All this can leave you feeling severely depleted. Exercising for an hour or less is enough to take care of your fitness

Setting a short workout routine will make you feel much better. Regular exercise helps relieve depression and anxiety. You may like to work out at home or think about joining a gym. You might want to look for a gym that offers baby sitting facilities.

You can ask your doctor about abdominal and pelvic exercises. These exercises can be done immediately after pregnancy and help in the healing process. Doing these exercises four to five times a day will help to tone up your muscles. You can join a postpartum class, which is especially designed for new mothers. Being in the company of new mothers, you can learn some more ways to get yourself back into shape.

Walking or jogging is a great way to keep you in shape. Join an aerobics or spinning class.
You can buy cardiovascular equipment for your home. Exercising on a treadmill or a stationary bike can help you burn off the extra calories. As your child grows older, you can even start working out with your child.

Remember to ease yourself into physical activity gradually. It may take up to six weeks for you to take up vigorous activity. The length of this period also depends on the kind of pregnancy that you had.  Complete rest is generally recommended for two weeks postpartum.
